The Board of Directors of the newly formed Mayo Civic Center and Convention and Visitors Bureau Corporation (“Corporation”) has recommended SMG for the award of the contract to provide venue operations and management for Mayo Civic Center.  In addition, the board has recommended Spectra be awarded the contract to provide food and beverage services for Mayo Civic Center.  With these recommendations for award, each organization will enter into negotiations to finalize and execute respective contracts with the Corporation. Pending executed agreements, each organization will operate under a five-year management agreement beginning January 1, 2020 with options for extensions and report to the Board of Directors and President of the Corporation.

The newly formed Corporation structure was approved by Rochester City Council in December of 2018 and the new Board put in place in June 2019. The Corporation is responsible for the sales, booking, and management of Mayo Civic Center as well as destination marketing efforts on behalf of the City of Rochester, MN. The selections of a venue operator and food and beverage provider are integral to the ongoing transition to the new governance model that is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.

“The Board is excited to be at this stage of the process,” said Jacob Malwitz, Chair of the Corporation’s Board of Directors. “We received competitive proposals for operations and food and beverage service from national firms and we are confident in the process that brought us to these decisions today. It is an exciting next step for our organization and for our City’s future.”
