Rochester, Minnesota was one of eight destinations selected to participate in Season 11 of Fireball Run, a 26-episode adventure travel series broadcast on Amazon. Fireball Run, which will be in Rochester September 24-25, tells the story of a legendary 8-day, 2,000 mile trivia pursuit road rally competition. To win, contestants take the road less traveled in an epic quest for America's under-discovered places and obscure, historic artifacts.
Rochester and the seven other destinations that will be included in Season 11 were selected based on economic vitality, quality of life, uniqueness, story content, and audience interest. Different from a reality TV series, Fireball Run is factual entertainment, a genre of non-fiction depicting actual events and people.
Essentially a trivia game at its core, Fireball Run's mission is nothing trivial: to find missing children. Through a partnership with Child Rescue Network, each team is assigned a missing child from their hometown and tasked with distributing posters along the rally route. Fireball Run's awareness campaign has aided in the recovery of 52 missing children.
Rochester community members are encouraged to attend a Fireball Run Welcome Celebration at Peace Plaza from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 24 when the celebrity participants arrive in Rochester.
At the Welcome Celebration:
• See 85 collector cars that are being driven in the competition
• Meet the celebrity teams participating in the competition, including astronaut Marcos Pontes, a duo of former Miss Americas, Red Ranger Power Ranger, and more
• Enjoy live music by Annie Mack
Local car enthusiasts are also invited to bring their cars down for display along Second Street.
The live competition takes place from September 22 to September 30, 2017. Fireball Run kicks off in Eau Claire, WI and finishes in Rapid City, South Dakota. Rochester is the second stop in the race. The other featured destinations include Dubuque, IA, Burlington, IA, Fort Dodge, IA, Yankton - Vermilion, SD, and Pierre, SD. For more information and to view past episodes, visit www.FireballRun.com.
