Accomplished author, educator, and social justice advocate, Karen Sieber, returns to the History Center to provide information on Juneteenth and the role that William Costley, who is buried in Rochester) played in emancipation. New research reveals his story and that of his mother, Nance Legins-Costley, whose bravery as a young teenager propelled her to become the first person to be emancipated by Abraham Lincoln.
