Veterans Day is observed November 11 and Rochester has many ways to express appreciation for our veterans and active military. Whether you’re looking for a place of quiet reflection or a fun outing, we have many things to do and military discounts to enjoy this week.

Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial

The sacrifices of military veterans from southeastern Minnesota are honored at Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial, the largest privately-funded memorial in the area. Free and open year round until 10 p.m. daily, Soldiers Field is a tranquil place to reflect on the contributions and sacrifices of veterans in their service to the United States. The Wall of Remembrance includes a series of panels with the names of local veterans from the Civil War to the present who died as a result of service-related injuries. The Walk of Remembrance includes a path with dedicated pavers inscribed in honor of more than 6300 U.S. and allied service members.

Roger Boulay Photography at Rochester Art Center

The Roger Boulay photography exhibit at the Rochester Art Center entitled “Debased: Defunct and Repurposed U.S. Military Sites” will host an opening reception on Friday, November 8 from 6 - 8 p.m. Boulay’s photographs chronicle the use or disuse of diverse military locations throughout Minnesota and other states. They explore how places can hold memory and the notion of the palimpsest, where something, in this case military facilities, are altered but in such a way that remnants of the past can still be seen. After the opening reception, the Boulay exhibit is on view through the end of this year during regular Rochester Art Center hours.

Military Appreciation Night by Rochester Grizzlies Hockey

On Saturday, November 9 at 7 p.m.,  the Rochester Grizzlies will host the Alexandria Blizzard on Military Appreciation Night at Rochester Recreation Center. All military personnel will receive free admission with a valid military ID. Stay after the game, for a custom jersey auction.
